Open Source Mission Planner

The ArduPilot Project provides an advanced, full-featured and reliable open source autopilot software system. The first ArduPilot open code repository was created in 2009 - since then it has been developed by a team of diverse professional engineers, academics, computer scientists, and other members of our global community. It is capable of controlling almost any vehicle system imaginable: conventional and VTOL airplanes, gliders, multirotors, helicopters, sailboats, powered boats, submarines, ground vehicles and even Balance-Bots. The supported vehicle types frequently expand as use cases emerge for new and novel platforms.

Installed in over 1,000,000 vehicles world-wide, and with advanced data-logging, analysis and simulation tools, ArduPilot is a deeply tested and trusted autopilot system. The open-source code base means that it is rapidly evolving, always at the cutting edge of technology development, whilst sound release processes provide confidence to the end user. With many peripheral suppliers creating interfaces, users benefit from a broad ecosystem of sensors, companion computers and communication systems. Since the source code is open, it can be audited to ensure compliance with security and secrecy requirements.

The software suite is installed in vehicles from many manufacturers, such as many from our Partners, and more broadly throughout the global autonomous systems industry. It is also used for testing and development by large institutions and corporations such as NASA, Intel and Insitu/Boeing, as well as countless colleges and universities around the world.

Industry Standard Pixhawk Flight Controller

This is a new Pixhawk flight controller set including orange cube and the ADS-B carrier board. This open source autopilot adopting more powerful H7 processor, featuring triple redundancy IMU system and vibration dampening system. The anti-jamming performance and stability are greatly improved. Carrier Board with an integrated 1090MHz ADS-B receiver, allowing the software to receive information about the location of manned aircraft in the area, that effectively improve the flight safety of UAV. In addition uAvionix has with the 200X Model of ADS-B In and out system incorporated a mode A/C/S Transponder and ADS-B In and Out transponder in one unit allowing ATC to see the location of the Overwatch 6. The Software in Ardupilot incorporates sense and avoid where the Overwatch 6 can turn away from an incoming aircraft when it senses how close it is to the unknown aircraft. In this case the UAV is essentially a manned aircraft in your national airspace environment.

KESTREL MARITIME - OPTIONAL

Kestrel Maritime is a software solution that automatically detects objects in electro-optical (EO) and infrared (IR) aerial full motion video (FMV) from manned aircraft and UAVs.

Optimised for the maritime environment – processing every pixel, every frame, hour after hour – Kestrel Maritime assists operators by:

  • Reliably detecting small objects such as fishing vessels, pirate boats and people overboard

  • Providing visual and audio cues to counter operator fatigue over long missions

  • Automatically transforming maritime FMV into actionable object data

Proven on a wide range of air platforms, Kestrel Maritime is an off-the-shelf application that complements radar to provide a reliable, all-encompassing maritime surveillance solution.

CAPABILITIES

Small Object Detection
Automatic, real-time detection of small objects, including those with low electronic signature such as wooden boats and people overboard, on the surface of the ocean.

Search and Rescue
Detection of people in the water within a range of environmental conditions.

Visual and Audio Alerts
Provision of visual and audio alerts to reduce potential operator fatigue over long missions.

Actionable Data
Kestrel maritime processes full motion video that contains geo-location meta-data, compliant with STANAG 4609 and MISB 0601. It also inserts target detection data into output video streams for downstream applications.

Plug and Play
Kestrel Maritime runs in a standard Windows environment and can be easily added to a control station or networked from a separate PC. Simply send your existing control station video feed to Kestrel or for enhanced performance, install Kestrel onto the payload of your air platform. Kestrel Maritime is also available as an API for Windows or Linux that can be seamlessly inserted into ISR solutions.

KESTREL LAND MTI - OPTIONAL

Kestrel Land MTI is a software solution that automatically detects movement in electro-optical (EO) and infrared (IR) full motion video (FMV) from manned aircraft and UAVs.

Kestrel enhances airborne Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions by:

  • Quickly transforming raw data into actionable intelligence

  • Automatically detecting moving objects too small or slow for fatigued
human eyes or radar to detect

  • Increasing surveillance mission coverage over wide areas

Kestrel Land MTI is at TRL 9 with extensive operational deployments.

CAPABILITIES

Small Object DetectionKestrel detects moving objects, often too small for fatigued human eyes to see. By increasing the probability of detection and reducing the rate of false alarms, it allows the operator to focus on objects more quickly. Kestrel’s digital zooming capability permits the operator to quickly investigate activities on the ground in more detail – zooming in on a specific object or location.

Real-time and Forensic OperationsKestrel enables aerial video to be analyzed automatically in real-time as well as after action for forensic analysis. By remaining alert 100% of the time, detection of objects is significantly enhanced. Snapshots of any video frame can be instantly taken, saved as an image and transmitted to analysts with all vital intelligence information.

Increased Surveillance AreaKestrel enables greater coverage from existing hardware. By being able to detect very small objects, the sensor can zoom out further and cover a much greater area per mission hour.

Moving Object TrackingKestrel displays ‘breadcrumbs’ indicating where each detected object has previously been in the image area. This gives the operator a visible history of the objects’ movements. Kestrel uses key characteristics to predict their future path. This enables Kestrel to maintain Detection IDs and form consistent breadcrumb trails, even when the software is unable to track the objects due to poor visibility or if the object is obscured for a period of time whilst in the field of view.

Geo-location DataKestrel processes full motion video that contains geo-location meta-data compliant with STANAG 4609 and MISB 0601. It also inserts object detection data into output video streams for downstream applications.

Plug and PlayKestrel runs in standard Windows and Linux environments and can be easily added to a Ground Control Station (GCS), PED system, Remote Video Terminal (RVT) or networked from a separate PC. Simply send your existing ground station video feed to Kestrel or for enhanced performance, install Kestrel onto the payload of your air platform. Kestrel is also available in API form for Windows and Linux.
